Thanks to American Express for sponsoring my writing today about small businesses. American Express is presenting Small Business Saturday, a way to honor the local merchants who are the backbone of the economy, this Saturday, November 27. They're offering statement credits to people who shop at small businesses, advertising for small-business owners, and donations to Girls Inc. for "Likes" of the Small Business Saturday page on Facebook. Join the celebration by clicking the "Like" button and then visiting the Facebook page to learn more about the program and read the terms and conditions that apply.
I was not aware that there was even such a thing as “Small Business Saturday” until last year when a friend of mine who had just purchased a salon informed me about it. This is a holiday that I will most definitely support this holiday season as I shop for Christmas gifts on my favorite site, Etsy. In case you live under a rock or something, Etsy is a website full of artists, crafters and vintage treasure finders, all conveniently located in one place (www.etsy.com).
I love buying items from Etsy for many reasons, but one of the main reasons is due to the fact that a lot of the online shop owners are people who were passionate enough about something that they quite their “real job” and used saved or borrowed money to live out a dream. For some the dream is something that has always been there, but for many I think it is something that they stumbled upon and decided to pursue.
I am not that brave, which is why though I love to embellish things with glitter and acrylic paint, my store has yet to open. My sister on the other hand has opened her own shop recently that stems from her love of all things vintage, from jewelry boxes to pearls.
In need of vintage pearls? You can find them
here in The
Little Shop of Deja Vu.
Or maybe you need a
black satin vintage bag? Whatever you are looking for, you are bound to come across something that you love in her shop, or one of the thousands of others on Etsy.
When shopping for Christmas or holidays gifts this season don't forget to support your local business!
